Exploring Islamorada

A Note from the Bride & Groom:

We are so thrilled to welcome everyone we love to this special place and can’t wait to share in our wedding day with everyone whom we hold closest to our hearts!

Islamorada has played host to many an oceanside legend. The Calusa and Tequesta settled on its tropical land taking advantage of its beauty and freshwater. Shipwrecks sprinkled treasure across its shores and the construction of the Overseas Railroad in 1905 ushered in an easy escape for vacationers to flourish under its sunshine. The Island’s romantic and interesting past is certainly still alive and present!

The people here appreciate the little things --- a healthy dose of sun, sand, and relaxation.  We try to affectionately put these same feelings and actions into practice within our day-to-day.

Below are our favorite local spots.  We hope you enjoy as much as we do!

Love,

Kathleen & Will

Islamorada Sandbar

Party with the locals regatta-style! The famous Islamorada Sandbar is located less than a mile offshore around Mile Marker 84 on the Atlantic Ocean side, just off the Postcard Inn and Holiday Isles Marina and close by to nearly all hotel suggestions. The water is so shallow on the sandbar, that you’ll notice lounge chairs, barbecue grills, picnic tables, umbrellas, all submersed for a good time. The sandbar is a great spot for all ages and is accessible by boat, waverunner, kayak, and even paddleboard for the adventure-inclined as it’s less than half a mile out from shore.

Sandbar Sundays seem to be the favored bookend to every Islamoradan’s Week, so stick around if you can for a Sandbar Sunday after brunch festivities.

Offshore Chartering in the Sportfishing Capital of the World

On the Atlantic-side and Backcountry waterways, there is always something biting offshore. You can’t go wrong any time of the year for fishing in Islamorada. If you get into town early or want to stay a bit longer to test your luck on the line we highly recommend a quick fishing excursion.

*Call ahead to Robbie’s Marina or Bud n’ Mary’s Marina for reservations. Both places are at the helm of Islamorada’s Sportfishing industry and will show you a great time on the water.

Morada Way Arts & Cultural Block

This is the celebrated Downtown Artists Colony. Galleries and shops with one-of-a-kind fine art and light bites make for a wonderful walk through this six-block space.

We love local spot Portside Gallery + Studios where owner Valerie Perreault creates her linocut prints celebrating the perpetual summer-life of the Florida Keys. Keefe Paints is another Bride & Groom favorite and you can find his work throughout his own space, The Rum Brush.

Village Square at The Trading Post

A pit stop for some boutique shopping, delicious coffee at Cafe Moka and Will’s favorite burrito in the keys at Bad Boy Burrito, you cant go wrong here. Located within walking distance of Cheeca Lodge and Little Basin Villas… it’s a good time.

DRIFT: Island Collective

Fabiana Domiano’s space is a goldmine for chic treasures that are one of a kind to the Island. Her motto: Live slow. We agree.
